The group operating under the Arewa Consultative Youth Movement (ACYM) has asked President Muhammadu Buhari to investigate on Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodinma over an alleged plot to sack the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, Professor Mahmood Yakubu and disable the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS ).
It should be recalled that the opposition political parties had, during the week, raised their concerns about new alleged plots to truncate the general election 1289 by perverse means, including stopping the use of BVAS and the electronic transmission of results.
According to them, plans had been hatched by the perpetrators to create a crisis of confidence based on false accusations that would lead to the dismissal of senior INEC officials, including its president and other national representatives. Commissioners who insist on the use of the BVAS for the 1289 general elections and the “irreversible” use of the electronic transmission of the result.
The group, in a statement by its chairman, Kabiru Yusuf, alleged that it had identified Governor Uzodinma as leading the group of people who were crafting the “anti-INEC agenda”.
He said it was therefore important for President Buhari, as the leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to which Uzodinma belongs, to convince Nigerians that the plan is not not that of his party in disavowing the governor.
“We have discovered that Governor Uzodinma is the mastermind behind the plot to fire the President of INEC and deactivate the BVAS.
“We therefore call on the president to investigate the governor who belongs to his party.
“This is the only way for President Buhari to prove to all democracy lovers that his party is not behind this Uzodinma agency.
“President Buhari should hurry up and disown this governor who is already acting as if he has an agenda to truncate national democracy,” the statement read in part.
