A Yobe North Senatorial candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Bashir Machina has revealed that the president of the Senate, Ahmad Lawan, who is currently in the seat has no plan to be a member of the Senate.
Machina who insisted that she would not give the presidential ticket to Lawan said that Lawan wouldn’t have been a candidate in the presidential primary of the party in the event of his ambition of being a senator again. Senate.
Lawan was a candidate for the APC’s presidential ticket but was defeated by Asiwaju Bola Ahmed in the primary.
It is reported that Lawan is currently seeking a move of the Senate ticket he was granted by Machina to him in order to be able to return to the Senate.
On Politics Today, a current news program that airs on Channels Television on Wednesday, Machina said “The the pressures are more or less speculation. There wasn’t a single person or message that directly says I must step down, however from the headquarter of the party I am in (APC) recently, I was informed that , if I were still running I must write in writing to notify the party of where I’m.”
He confirmed that the email that was trending on the internet is his reply to an inquiry from an unidentified caller at the national office of the APC.
“I formally wrote a letter to the party, reiterating and affirming my position, that I am still the candidate; that I did not withdraw, and I am not withdrawing, and I’m in the race in the event that anybody is contemplating or doubting that there is any move,” He said.
If the APC management of the APC requested him to take a step back in order to honour Ahmad Lawan, Machina said, “No I’m not going to take a step back since Ahmad Lawan did not contest for the Senate. Of course, it’s well-known that Ahmad Lawan contested for president and was defeated. When I ran to run for Senate, Lawan did not take part (in his primary) or didn’t challenge (for Senate). So, I don’t believe it’s an issue.”
If asked about what would he do should President Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd. ) has requested him to, Machina said the APC will not replicate the anti-democratic tendency of other parties, which it was formed to put an end to.
The candidate further stated that he was superior to Lawan in legislative rank because Lawan was a member of Lawan’s House of Representatives in the extinct Third Republic while Lawan joined the National Assembly in the Fourth Republic.
