Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, has alleged that the Central Bank of Nigeria’s (CBN) decision to reform the Naira currency is aimed at causing riots in the country.
Wike, who spoke last Saturday during the election campaign in Opobo/Nkoro local government of the state, alleged that the intention was to create conflict that would lead to the postponement of the February and March elections.
The governor alleged that there are conspiracies by some people in power to distort the election and establish an interim government.
He urged Nigerians to calm down despite the hardships associated with the low currency of the Naira, stressing that the election will not be changed.
He said, “This policy (reformation of the Naira) was done to anger people so that they would protest and riot and postpone the election.” Then, they will present an interim government.
“No matter the provocation, do not protest,” Wike warned the people of the state.
“This election will be held. This election is for PVCs. This election is not a party election; It is the election of Nigerians.”
